Alice Gatewood Waddell
Born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Alice Gatewood Waddell has developed an artistic style that appeals to a variety of collectors. Primarily known for her mixed media designs, Waddell seeks to incorporate positive messages regarding family, unity, and spiritual celebration to both move and inspire the viewer. “As far back as I can remember I wanted to do art,” states Alice. “My grandmother was also an artist.”  A formally trained artist, Waddell obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, with a concentration in painting, from Western Kentucky University. After graduating, Waddell began teaching art classes, giving private art lessons, providing workshops to adult groups, and working with seniors on therapeutic art techniques.  Alice says, “As an African artist I portray works that remind us of the past and present struggles and accomplishments of an oppressed race. Many of my creations are simply commentaries on both rural and urban life experiences.”
